๐ŸŽง You may have edited OUT your BEST scene ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Hi Reader!

There's probably a scene in your manuscript where nothing really happens.

No dialogue. No confrontation. No big reveal.

๐Ÿช‘ Your hero is just alone. Sitting somewhere. Thinking.

And you've read that scene back and wondered if it's pulling its weight, if it's worth the word count or just bloating your story. ๐Ÿค”

Maybe you've already cut one like it. Or marked it "revisit, possibly fluff". โ˜๏ธ

๐ŸŽฌ In my workshops and courses, I talk about how every scene needs a purpose.

If you can't clearly state WHY a scene is important for your story's:

๐ŸŒฑ hero growth arc

๐Ÿ›๏ธ romantic tropes

๐Ÿ’ž romance beats

๐Ÿ—ป or plot structure...

you should either cut it or revise it.

And this week's podcast episode ๐ŸŽง๐Ÿ‘‡ is about the scenes that look like fluff but AREN'T.

Because the quiet moment where your hero chooses NOT to do what her chapter-one self would have done is where the real magic lives. โœจ

It's where your reader can't put the book away, even after she's stopped reading the scene that made her tear up. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Spend 30 minutes ๐ŸŽง of your time with me today, and I'll walk you through how one scene can change the feel of your big splashy ending from forced to earned.

Because without this ONE moment, the HEA at the end will fall flat, no matter how hard you try to punch it up.

Hi Reader! When I was an acquiring editor for a small press, I got to decide which books we published in my category romance lines. (Sounds exciting, right? What it really means is that I had to read a ton of slush, and that's not nearly as fun as it sounds. ๐Ÿฅด๐Ÿ’”) And there was this one story that I was SO excited to work on. It was the perfect fit, with all the right tropes and romantic chemistry that ๐Ÿ”ฅ promised to be off the charts. But when I got the manuscript, the story was kinda boring. I...

Hi Reader! Miranda and I disagreed. On camera. More than once. ๐Ÿ˜… And we had SUCH a good time, we're doing it again! Stay tuned for our deep dive of Warrior, Princess, Assassin later this summer! And I'm not talking about the similar-but-different style of disagreement. I'm talking "Are we reading the same book??" disagreement. ๐Ÿ‘‚ She prefers traditional, formal fantasy voice. I loved Fourth Wing's modern slang. (That book felt written for me.) ๐Ÿ“– I loved the Xaden bonus chapters. She thought...

Hi Reader! Confession time. ๐Ÿ™ˆ I almost DNF'd A Court of Thorns and Roses. (I KNOW. Put down the pitchforks. ๐Ÿ˜…) It wasn't the writing, and it wasn't because of Feyre. It was the squalor. The starving, the freezing, the hovel house, the hunting-to-survive desperation... ๐Ÿคฎ I read romance to escape. And living through Feyre's medieval survival struggle felt more like a camping trip gone very wrong. โ›บ๐Ÿ˜ฉ (And I'm barely willing to glamp.) But plenty of readers LOVE that gritty opening. For some of...
