Would you recommend me to your writing group (or event)? πŸ’

Hi Reader!

Recommending yourself is terribly awkward. And dubiously effective.

"Hi, I'm great, book me for your event" reads about as well as it sounds. πŸ˜…

So I'm hoping you can help me out with that.

πŸ‘‹ Will you recommend me to your group's (or favorite event's) programming director? πŸ₯°

I'm booking November 2026 through all of 2027, virtual and in person. And I'd love to spend an hour or two bringing inspiration, can-do energy, and Aha! Moments to your corner of the writing world.

Now, I know a few of you are already pulling up a list of events with contact emails, because you are generous people. πŸ₯°

βœ‹ But one quick ask first...

❌ Please don't send me a list of events or people to pitch.

I realized recently that the BEST events I have been part of happened because πŸ—¨οΈ someone like you recommended ME to them.

❣️ Because you already know whether I'll be a good fit.

And nearly every time I cold-pitch a person or event, πŸ—‘οΈ my email goes right into the trash. (I assume, since I rarely hear back. 😰)

That personal touch is really important because you're part of a space where...

πŸ’ž Romance writers can be themselves in it. The group doesn't have to be romance-only, but nobody should feel like they have to apologize for what they write.

πŸ“š The writers are past the beginner stage. They know scene purpose, POV, tropes, basic structure. (I go fast and deep and will overwhelm beginners.)

⚑ Your peers are published, or they're serious about publishing (with a date already on the calendar).

If those are your people, awesome! Recommend me to your event's coordinator. (Yes, even if it's a big-name event like Author Nation or InkersCon. Those especially!)

πŸ‘€πŸ‘‡

πŸ“βœοΈ Here's a template for you to use (be sure to replace the parts in [brackets!]):

πŸ’Œ SUBJECT:
πŸ™ŒπŸ’Ž A must-have presenter for [event name]

πŸ’Œ BODY:
Hi [name],

Can I put a name in front of you for programming? I'd love for Sue Brown-Moore to be a presenter for [event or meeting]. She teaches writers how to trust our storytelling instincts by looking at our manuscripts through a flawed, human perspective. Sue is currently booking November 2026 through all of 2027, and she does both virtual and in person.

[If you've been to one of my sessions, say here what you think I'm good at. Or, if you haven't, say why you think I'm the right fit for your group].

She's a story coach for romance writersβ€”previously an acquiring and developmental editorβ€”and her workshops are always interactive, so that writers make progress in real time and leave feeling inspired.

Here are two of Sue's workshops that I'd love to see on our calendar (pick your favorite and send her an email to set it up!):

🍰 Cake, Not Chaos: The 4-Part Story Beats Stack
Stack four layers of beats into one story map, then write between them. 60 minutes, hands-on, with working sprints and a take-home layer map you start filling in during the session.

πŸ›‘οΈ Write Without Resistance: The 4 Emotional Patterns That Hold Writers Back
Find which kind of self-protection is running your writing life, then flip it into a portable, reusable script that reframes your "flaws" as strengths anytime you need a boost. 90 minutes, with a 2-hour version that carries it into character work.
https://suebrownmoore.com/workshops/write-without-resistance/

πŸ‘» The Root Fear Factor
Dig down to the fear driving your hero's choices, then build the plot on top of it. 90 minutes minimum. One of Sue's most raved-about workshops. (It can unlock story fixes you didn't realize you needed.)

πŸ“ The 8-Scene Story Setup
Frame a whole character growth arc in eight scenes, using a deconstructed hero from Bridgerton season 3. 90 minutes. A whole new way to plot without following restrictive beat sheets or formulas.

(And YES! All of those come with their own dedicated comprehensive workbook. πŸ“‘)

If you want me (Sue) to follow up, be sure to CC me on the email you send. πŸ₯° I'd love to learn about which groups and events you're part of!

πŸ“† PS: Looking to fill a longer time slot, like for a half-day or multi-day special event? I have options for that too. Just let me know what your event needs and we'll chat about which of my workshops is the best fit.

πŸ€” PPS: If you don't have a personal contact but want to recommend me, look up whoever handles programming on the event's website and email them. Coming from you still counts for WAY more than a self-recommendation from me.

βœ‹ PPPS: Not every group is a fit for what I teach, and that's totally fine! I work with experienced romance writers who are building a career they love. If that's not your crowd, skip the recommendation and don't give it another thought. You don't owe me an explanation or apology, promise. πŸ₯°

Hi Reader! I rediscovered a photo recently that has thrown me into all sorts of nostalgia and warm, fuzzy feels. The cake 🍰 Ty's family surprised us with at our engagement party. Yeah yeah, I know, the half-rotting woman on the right isn't exactly cuddly, but she's part of me. And she's a memory anchorβ€”what I call a "ghost" in my story revision frameworkβ€”that takes me back to 20 years ago, when I first met my partner. If you're not sure what that ☝️ cake image is from, it's two player...

peek at what changed in the 2026 version of the Story Snapshot Method

Hi Reader! Two years ago today, I was sitting in a completely empty house. We'd just moved into our new house in Colorado, and the trek to get here was EPIC. (There is a whole story I've never told, 😰 which I have dubbed The Breakdown At Battle Mountain, and that name alone sums up just how stressful the move was.) After a multi-day cross-country drive in a Jeep that nearly died on the road, we finally made it to our home... just to find out that our furniture would not be here for another...

Catamarans at port in Placencia Belize at sunset

Hi Reader! I just got back from a two-week vacation in Belize β›΅πŸŒ΄, and about halfway through week 2β€”as I was trying to find the tiniest shade to huddle away in from the β˜€οΈ brutal UVβ€”I had an Aha Moment... about myself. I wouldn't call it a good realization. 😰 But it was an important one. And it explains so much about why I've been so unhappy for so long. Not like, miserable unhappy, but this low-key feeling that I'm just not good enough. I've always felt that way. I just assumed it was normal,...
