The Monday morning I want for you πŸ’

Hi Reader!

Close your eyes for a second (okay, AFTER you read this part πŸ˜…) and picture this:

It's Monday morning (or Friday night or whenever you like to edit). You open your manuscript to that scene. The one that's been fighting you for weeks.

πŸ’‘ And instead of the dread, your first thought is, "I know what this scene needs."

Not hope. Not another guess that you'll rewrite next weekend.

You know WHAT is wrong and WHY. ⚑

That kind of knowing ☝️ doesn't hit you as one giant lightning bolt.

πŸ’ͺ You have to develop the muscle, one small skill at a time.

✍️ And then you have to practice it, over and over, until it is instinct.

And then you learn the next small skill, and the next, and the next, until suddenly, your brain and your heart and your fingers are all working together.

When you recognize that moment ☝️, you're ready to start editing your own work intuitively. And that's a skill that can take even professional editors years to develop on their own.

It's also the moment I celebrate with every writer in my programs.

Because when revision stops feeling like a threat or a chore or something you dread (because you don't know what you don't know, right?)...

Your whole job of writing romance starts feeling fun and fulfilling. 😍

You remember what started you on this journey to begin with. You know why you make the "WHAT" decisions that you do.

βŒ› The heavy hours that used to dominate your schedule turn into free time.

Imagine if Saturday mornings meant β˜• coffee and reading a book purely for pleasure. πŸ“š

Or a dinner with the family 🍽️ where you can just be present, instead of mentally untangling your hero's dark moment under the table.

⚑ That's the REAL payoff of learning the micro-skills of self-editing.

Yes, your manuscripts start getting stronger, right from the very start. But the best part is the peace. 🌈

The knowledge that the story you are writing is the right one, and you know EXACTLY how to make it sing. πŸ’

And Enemies To Expertsβ€”one tiny bite-sized exercise at a timeβ€”is where you learn those skills. (Scroll down to learn more.)

πŸ‘‹πŸ€”

I have a question for you and I genuinely want you to hit reply and answer:

What's one thing you wish non-romance-writers understood about writing romance?

Hit reply right now πŸ–±οΈ and let me know πŸ’¬.

I read every answer personally. And I honestly want to know. πŸ₯°

This is something I talked about last week at the RWA National convention, and it's important. Because you're not alone in feeling this way, and voicing the thing that is silently holding you back can make that weight a little lighter.

So chat me back and share your thoughts with me. πŸ‘©β€β€οΈβ€πŸ‘©

Hi Reader! I rediscovered a photo recently that has thrown me into all sorts of nostalgia and warm, fuzzy feels. The cake 🍰 Ty's family surprised us with at our engagement party. Yeah yeah, I know, the half-rotting woman on the right isn't exactly cuddly, but she's part of me. And she's a memory anchorβ€”what I call a "ghost" in my story revision frameworkβ€”that takes me back to 20 years ago, when I first met my partner. If you're not sure what that ☝️ cake image is from, it's two player...

peek at what changed in the 2026 version of the Story Snapshot Method

Hi Reader! Two years ago today, I was sitting in a completely empty house. We'd just moved into our new house in Colorado, and the trek to get here was EPIC. (There is a whole story I've never told, 😰 which I have dubbed The Breakdown At Battle Mountain, and that name alone sums up just how stressful the move was.) After a multi-day cross-country drive in a Jeep that nearly died on the road, we finally made it to our home... just to find out that our furniture would not be here for another...

Catamarans at port in Placencia Belize at sunset

Hi Reader! I just got back from a two-week vacation in Belize β›΅πŸŒ΄, and about halfway through week 2β€”as I was trying to find the tiniest shade to huddle away in from the β˜€οΈ brutal UVβ€”I had an Aha Moment... about myself. I wouldn't call it a good realization. 😰 But it was an important one. And it explains so much about why I've been so unhappy for so long. Not like, miserable unhappy, but this low-key feeling that I'm just not good enough. I've always felt that way. I just assumed it was normal,...
